Gazing Globes

I have always, always, ALWAYS hated gazing globes. I just think that in the past they have looked gaudy in any garden. These, however, are actually not gaudy much like other garden globes I have seen.

This picture isn't a very good one but you can easily see the difference between these garden globes and the ones above. In fact I found quite a few gazing globes that I wouldn't mind having in my own garden. If only they were also unbreakable...

Sprinkler on Wheels

They look like a reproduction toys from the 50s, but they're actually Spinklers on Wheels.

I found these "pull toy" sprinklers @ Barrons.

Carruth Rabbit Birdbath

Isn't it adorable? I think so too. This is a concrete birdbath by George Carruth of Carruth Studios, an artist who got his start in advertising.

This particular piece is one of my favorites. It seems petite, but it's actually a foot tall and weighs 30 lbs. The part I like most about it is that the bath is heart-shaped.

There are many, many other unique items at Carruth Studios. You can go here to see his latest creations.

Design Toscano

The image “http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1248/2327/1600/Guardian_Angels.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

I think everyone can remember at least one moment that gave them their first glimpse at something they truly adore today. For me, it was this image that coaxed me into reading more about gardening.

~

Over the years I've browsed Design Toscano. It was probably around 1999 when I started clipping out some of the images from their garden catalogs and placing them in a Dream Garden Journal I was compiling.

Within a year of recieving their catalogs their designs went from being gorgeous, one-of-a-kind creations to being incredibly bubbly, oh-I've-seen-that-before works. They literally went from creating some beautiful angel statues at understandably large prices to making cheap-looking statues at erroneous prices.

Part of the charm that attracts me to garden pieces is that they look antique (or antiqued) and have some sort of timeless beauty built into them. The statuettes they were producing were colourful, gnome-esque pieces that were cute but cheap-looking.

If it wasn't for that I probably wouldn't know what my gardening style is (English, Woodland, and a little formal). Right now I would probably just know what I didn't like and proceed to curse it.

Flower Press

 flower press

This is a very pretty flower press from Victorina Trading Co. It's for people who are too impatient to press their flowers in books or others who want to preserve the beauty of their fleur in a clear, flat display by laminating them.

The stickers will cost you an extra $3.95

Hippo Head Fountain

The image “http://www.windandweather.com/wind/Images/go-418-l.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

When I was about 14 I started to become more interested in gardening, plantlife, and (of course) garden ornamentation. This is one of the first water features I really loved. I first saw it @ Design Toscano but it was quickly retired. Thank God for knock-offs. It's now @ Wind & Weather.

I'm confident that when it comes time to build a larger garden this will still be production. Or else we can always find it on eBay.

This looks more like a small sink than a planter, doesn't it? Well, actually that's because it's a baptismal font. This font, from the 19th century, stands at almost 3 feet. It's made of stone and is currently on the market at English Garden Antiques for £3350.00 (approx. $6,370.85)

Roundabout Garden Tree Bench

This is a very beautiful antique tree bench. I found this one on eBay. And, as you can see, it's been for sale for quite some time. I'm not sure who the original proprieters were, but I think it's just gorgeous. It's made from wrought iron and its age is more than 100 years old (c. 1890).

This owner's web site is here.

Moss Graffiti

The image “http://www.storiesfromspace.co.uk/data/images/mosgraffiti/mg2.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

Recipe

1 can of beer
1/2 teaspoon sugar
Several clumps garden moss

You will also need a plastic container (with lid),
a blender and a paintbrush

To begin the recipe, first of all gather together several clumps of moss (moss can usually be found in moist, shady places) and crumble them into a blender. Then add the beer and sugar and blend just long enough to create a smooth, creamy consistency. Now pour the mixture into a plastic container.

Find a suitable damp and shady wall on to which you can apply your moss milkshake. Paint your chosen design onto the wall (either free-hand or using a stencil). If possible try to return to the area over the following weeks to ensure that the mixture is kept moist. Soon the bits of blended moss should begin to re-couperate into a whole rooted plant – maintaining your chosen design before eventually colonising the whole area.
