Pecos River In Calrsbad

This is the latest "feature" in Carlsbad. It's a large water fountain. It shoots about 20 ft. of river water into the air. It's pretty but the city blew their entire budget on this instead of something nice for the kids in our community...

The riverwalk is actually held up by a bunch of barrels strung together. Across the river you can see the cool playground area, which is probably where the people on the riverwalk were going.

This is one of the most memorable parts of Carlsbad for me. We use to go fishing nearby this dam. RiverAlso, the big building that looks like a prison is the old power plant facility. It's now a recreational center for kids. It is awful...

Inherited Glassware

This is a flower bowl and candy dish I inherited from my paternal Grandmother. My Grandmother died of cancer sometime in the 1970s. I never met her and, listening to my Father tell stories about her, I am glad I didn't have the displeasure.

Sometime in the late nineties part of my Father's childhood home was being demolished and much of their belongings were still in the house. My Dad asked if he could retrieve some of the items and these are two of the things he was able to attain.

I can plainly admit that I do not choose to keep these as a memory of her. I will keep them because I like them. This, to me, is proof that people should be careful as to what kind of people they are because their memory will live on for a very long time.

A Very Early Mother's Day

Maybe I will never be a Mother. Maybe I will. That doesn't mean I can't appreciate the beauty of Motherhood, right? Well, hopefully someday (soon) I will be a Mommy. But till then I ill have this beautiful antique photograph to look at.

I bought it from an antique store in my area simply called Antique Mall. I spotted it more than two months ago when I went I browsed there with my parents and I'm happy to say it was still there when I went back today. Today was a horrible day but I believe there is always one part good to every bad day, just as there is one part bad to every good day.

I paid $35.00 for the photo, glass and frame, both of which are original to the photo. If you click the photo you can see, somewhat, the wooden frame as well.

Now this leaves me wondering if the girl in the photo ever became a Mother...

More Stuff From the Antique Mall

The Antique Mall stretches back pretty far and has an upstairs balcony.

An old iron birdcage. The worker there called it "Shabby Chic" though, in person, it looked shabby shabby. The bottom of it was made of an old water cooler and weighed more than the birdcage itself. It was priced at a little over $200, though the seller said she would "let me have it" for 15% off, IF I paid in cash. No thank you. I thought it was more shabby than chic and completely impractical.

Some old bottles and pricey Valentines.
The one on left is priced at $45.00

A beautiful, lonely old house.
This was a framed photo.

Leech Jar and Spoon

This is a very pretty-looking leech jar I found on eBay. Lately there seems to be a lot of these goblet-esque leech jars listed, but none of them have really caught my fancy. One very pretty one was even cobalt blue in colour! The seller on eBay describes this leech "jar" as:

Coming from an old collector in Nîmes, South of France, this is a stunning, large, leech jar, made from blown glass, with bubles inside, pretty baluster stem, and its very rare boxwood two sized spoon, adjustable on a long srewing handle finely turned... Sorry, we will refuse to sell the rare spoons separately.... Such rare leech set is described and pictured (see our last photo) in the fine French book, Doctor Gaboriau, "outils de la Santé et Médecine d'Autrefois", p.165.... it was used in apothecaries to deliver leech on demand.

Dimensions: Glass jar: 12ins x 9ins (30cm x 23cm).
Wooden spoon: 13-1/4ins x 1-3/4ins = 34cm x 4,5cm.
Condition: Is excellent, some light cracks in wood, some light wear and stripes on glass, nothing serious, as you can see on our detailed pictures.

This is a French medical deal, dating from late 18th Century or early 1800s.
