Switchplates

I looove details. I am more liable to l0ok at the fine details of a house than of the "big picture."

Details, to me, signify a true dedication to the object, whether it be a drawing, a home, a car-- anything! So I found a site called Switch Hits that carries a wide variety of cool and unusual swtichplates. They may not be at the top of a home renovator's list, but they are pretty high on mine. Switch Hits also carries outlet plates and has their selections categorized by colour. Check out their children and pink selections!

Shake 'em Baby! Shake 'em!

Pom Pom Crab, Lybia tessellata, is a curiously comical little guy. Lybia tessellata is native to the Hawaiian islands and frequently carries small anemones in each claw, hence the "Pom Pom."
There are at least two purposes for carrying the anemones. The first is a simple matter of defense. The crab will taunt would-be predators by shaking the anemones in hopes of stinging the invader into retreat. Secondly, the crab also sweeps the substrate with its pom poms to gather uneaten food, thus creating a symbiotic relationship between the Pom Pom Crab and its pom poms. The anemones undoubtedly benefit from this sweeping by getting to eat its share of the treasure. The Pom Pom crab is also commonly refered to as the Boxer Crab, and it is a hardy creature that grows to about an inch in length.

Animal Groups

There are words used to describe a collection or a group of a single type of animal that are together dyuring any given period of time. We've all heard of a "swarm of bees" or a "school of fish." But did you know that a group of toads is known as a "knot of toads?" Here are a few more interesting ones!

  • Gale of whales

  • Bale of turtles

  • Band of gorillas

  • Crash of rhinoceri

  • Gaggle of geese

  • Gang of elk

  • Yoke of oxen

  • Watch of nightingales

  • Mob of kangaroos

  • Bed of oysters

Pinkie Mouse

I made this on May 9th, my Mom's 60th birthday. I don't have a whole lot of sewing experience, but I think I did an OK job on this one. Since I made her on my Mother's birthday I asked her to name this pink mouse; she named her Pinkie.
